Just as it is important to ensure that only the necessary amount of columns are included in any report, it is also important to include only the required number of views. Using an Oracle BI application it is possible to remove a view from a report without actually deleting it. In order to achieve this, you must simply choose to hide the view. However, the option to hide a view in a report that has been generated using Oracle is actually labelled as ‘Delete’. It is important to remember this when managing your Oracle settings, in order to avoid confusion. If you decide that a particular view in an Oracle BI application is unnecessary, you can choose to hide it using the following process. Firstly, choose to open the view, then click the properties button and then select Delete. Again this will not delete the view, but simply hide it.
Another useful formatting process relates to the layout of tables in a report that has been generated from a specific dashboard. Oracle recommend that you display no more than 15 rows per page. The Paging Controls option should preferably be set to ‘Bottom’. Column sorting in dashboards should be enabled, and it is a good idea to check the box that provides alternating row styling. This means that every second row in your table will be shaded a different color. Another feature which is worth enabling is the ‘Enable Column Sorting in Dashboards’ option. This will help to filter the report results efficiently.
